The new multipurpose Auditorium of the Willowdene Group of Schools was officially opened and dedicated on Sunday July 2, 2017, during the graduation exercise for the High School division.
The auditorium was dedicated in honor of the late Pastor Benjamin McKenzie, (Pastor O.B. McKenzie)
His wife the late Pearline J. McKenzie and children, (Maurice, Judy and Junior) for their contributions and commitment to its renovations and upkeep for Adventist Christian Education.
The late Pastor O. B. McKenzie was a migrant from Panama to Jamaica, Pastor McKenzie pursued the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology at West Indies College, now Northern Caribbean University. He joined the workforce in Central Jamaica Conference as a Ministerial Intern in January 1954. Subsequently he became District Pastor and was ordained to Gospel Ministry in January 1960.
Between 1955 and April 1989 he served as Ministerial Intern, District Pastor, and Associate Stewardship Director. He was also a member of the Conference and Union Executive committees. Most importantly, he had a passion for Christian Education.
“My father always believed in Christian Education and my brother and I are alumni of the Willowdene High School and are delighted to give back, Maurice recalled.
He continued, “As a family, we are honored and proud that the board and the school have decided to honor my father and my parents for their contributions to Christian Education, said Maurice.
Principal of the Willowdene Group of Schools, Mr. Peter Williams expressed gratitude for this timely development.
“As an institution, I want to say a big thank you to the McKenzie’s family for the immense value they have placed on Christian Education, and have thus contributed in such a tangible way, he said “We commit to utilizing this auditorium for the wholistic development of minds for service in this world and the world to come.”
Meanwhile Pastor Levi Johnson, Board Chairman of the Willowdene Group of Schools affirmed the school of the Central Jamaica Conference’s continued support to Christian Education.
“The Administration of the Central Jamaica Conference through our Education Director will ensure that this auditorium will be used in the constituency to advance the welfare of Adventist Christian Education.
Representing an investment in wholistic education, the new auditorium is suited with all modern amenities, such as air-condition units, projector and screen, comfortable seating for 500 guests, male and female restrooms, and adjoining cafeteria.
