Over Two Hundred Couples Benefited from Online Couples Enrichment Seminar

Published: 16-10-2020 |

Over 200 couples benefited from a five-week online couples enrichment seminar captioned "From This Day Forward" conducted by the Family Ministries Department of the Central Jamaica Conference. The focus was on "creating stronger and more resilient marriages amidst the challenges of COVID-19." The curriculum for this programme was developed by Dr Willie Oliver and Mrs Elaine Oliver, Family Ministries Directors at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Hosts, Dr Roy Dennis (Director, Family Ministries & Counselling Services, CJC) and his wife Mrs Keisha Dennisur-Dennis, took the participants through topics such as The Joy of Oneness, Communication and Forgiveness. Meanwhile, Dr Lorraine Vernal (Director, Family Ministries, JAMU) and husband Elder Michael Vernal assisted with a special presentation on Problem Solving.

During the five weeks, each couple received a Participant Workbook which allowed them to follow the presentations and participate when instructed to do so. They also received practical tools for improving their marriage relationship such, as the Talking Totem.

As he integrated the couples into the sessions Dr Dennis stated, "Sometimes we have difficulties in our marriages and we forget the pleasant moments. When we are having those difficulties we must go back to the place where we met each other and see if we do not have pleasant pages there. Those are the pleasant pages we should dwell on."

On Sunday, September 20, 2020, Pastor Nevail Barrett, Executive Secretary of Central Jamaica Conference brought greetings on behalf of the Administration of the Conference.  He commended Dr Dennis and Mrs Dennis for this timely and relevant programme and said, “It is always relevant and important to have this kind of emphasis especially in these trying times.” He admonished the couples not to keep the information to themselves but to share it with family members and friends so that they too can experience the enrichment.
