CJC to Host Special Ordination Ceremony

What is Ordination?

Ordination is a biblical concept that began with Jesus calling and appointing (ordaining) the 12 apostles.

In fact, in a unique sense, you could consider that it was modeled even earlier when the Father appointed and sent His Son as an Apostle to this Earth. Jesus became a human but also maintained His divinity as Christ and carried out His special mission of salvation for those who accept Him as Savior and Lord (see Hebrews 3:1).

While ordination contributes to the Church order, it neither conveys special qualities to the persons ordained nor introduces a kingly hierarchy within the faith community.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He made sure that the foundation of His church was solidly laid based on the apostles and prophets, with He Himself being the chief cornerstone (see Ephesians 2:20).

As the church rapidly grew the apostles realized the need for additional church workers and ordained the seven deacons (see Acts 6).

They also had elders (Acts 11:30), that is, spiritual leaders ordained through the laying on of hands. These elders were to take their place in Jerusalem so that they could carry out Christ’s commission to take the gospel to the ends of the Earth (Acts 1:8).

In the act of ordination, the Church confers representative authority upon individuals for the specific work of ministry to which they are appointed. These may include:
1. representing the Church
2. proclaiming the gospel
3. administering the Lord’s Supper and baptism.
4. planting and organizing churches
5. guiding and nurturing members
6. opposing false teachings; and
7. providing general service to the congregation

The biblical examples of ordination include the giving of a charge, the laying on of hands, fasting and prayer, and committing those set apart to the grace of God.

On Saturday, April 30, the Central Jamaica Conference in association with the Jamaica Union Conference (JAMU), will again participate in this holy convocation.

The Service of Ordination will be on Sabbath, April 30, 2022, beginning at 3:30 PM. Join us as eight (8) of our pastors will be ordained.

You may join us in person at the Portmore Seventh-day Adventist Church (7 Port Henderson Road, Portmore, St. Catherine) or online at the CJC's YouTube Channel, Facebook Page, WatchCJCLive.com and Bless TV.
