Delegates at the Central Jamaica Conference (CJC) 5th Quadrennial Session will scroll through session material on a personal tablet rather than flipping through pages of a printed bulletin.
This is in partnership with two other conferences in Jamaica—East and North East Jamaica Conferences whose conference sessions are also due in a few weeks.
Over four hundred tablets were purchased from the session budget after comparing the cost to the typical printing cost for the bulletins.
“We found a deal for buying the tablets in bulk that was not much more expensive than printing the usually thick bulletins so we decided to go that route. It also gives the delegates something useful to take away from the session instead of the books that are usually filed away and forgotten,” says Conference Secretary, Pastor Nevail Barrett.
The tablets cost approximately US $30.00 each. They are a mix of 7 and 10-inch screens with 8 and 16 GB of storage respectively.
A mobile application has already been created to host all reports, the CJC constitution, session rules of order and other relevant information.
“Members of staff at CJC and volunteers took two days to install the session app on the tablets so that they will be ready to use,” says Communication Director, Pastor Damian Chambers.
Based on the feedback from this session and given the cost remains manageable, the conference hopes to continue to provide session delegates with the gadgets at future sessions.
The session opens on Wednesday, June 13 and closes Thursday, June 14. It will be hosted at Camp Verley in Spring Gardens, St. Catherine and is themed “His Plan, Our Mission”.
