The Executive Committee of the Central Jamaica Conference at its meeting held on the Wednesday, 9th August, 2017 has voted to appoint Pastor Nevail Douglas Barrett, current Director of Sabbath School and Personal Ministries as the new Conference Secretary.
The position became vacant when Pastor Kevin Danvers accepted a call to serve in the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
“I am humbled by this appointment and deem it an honour to give service to God at this level”, said Pastor Barrett who indicated that he was thankful to God for His leading in his life and for the opportunity to serve in ministry over the years.
Pastor Levi Johnson, President of CJC said he believed that based on Pastor Barrett’s experience and maturity, he will do well in this position.
Executive Secretary of the Jamaica Union, Dr. Merick Walker, who was also present at the meeting, congratulated Pastor Barrett and said he was looking forward to working with him.
Pastor Barrett will also carry the portfolio responsibilities of Director of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty (PARL) and Personal Ministries, while Elder Linford Farquharson has been appointed as Sabbath School Director.
Elder Linford Farquharson is the current Assistant Development Director and former Publishing Director of the CJC.
PROFILE OF NEVAIL BARRETT
Pastor Barrett hails from the garden parish of St. Ann.
His membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church spans over 30 years, and for the past 20 years he has been serving the Central Jamaica Conference as a Pastor and Director.
He was formally trained for ministry at the Northern Caribbean University, where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Theology, and a Minor in Business Administration. In 2006 he successfully completed the Masters of Arts Degree in Pastoral Theology at Inter-American Division Theological Seminary.
Pastor Barrett has pastored the following Districts—Gayle in St. Mary, Palm, as well as St. Johns, Portmore and Spanish Town in St Catherine.
During the CJC Conference Sessions of 2010 and 2014, Pastor Barrett was elected and re-elected to serve as Director of Sabbath School and Personal Ministries. He has also served on various Committees such as – Executive Committee of the Jamaica Union Conference, and the Central Jamaica Conference, and as a member of the Board of the Willowdene Group of Schools.
Pastor Barrett is a specialist in lay training and seminars. As Director in charge of the International Institute of the Christian Ministry (IICM) training program at CJC, he has trained and graduated over seven hundred (700) persons from the Institute in the areas of Church Leadership, Public and Personal Evangelism, Adult, Youth & Children Religious Education, Community Service, Communication and Women Ministry.
During his fourteen (14) years as a District Pastor, Pastor Barrett has led over 1,500 hundred souls to the Lord in baptism. Each year he received a centurion award for evangelism and once he was awarded by the Jamaica Union for outstanding work in Evangelism and Church Leadership. He is an ordained Minister and Marriage Officer of the Island of Jamaica.
He is the proud husband of Carlene, and father of their loving daughter, Cavail. His philosophy is that “God is the author of our placement” and with that in mind, he faces each day with joy and confidence.
