800 youths of the Central Jamaica Conference (CJC) were invested in various areas of Youth -Ministry during a Youth Rally and Investiture Service held on Sabbath, November 25, 2017 at Camp Verley, Spring Gardens.
Among those invested were two (2) of the oldest Master Guides, Eslyn Lawrence - 69 years old from the Pacers Club, Clear Park SDA Church and Redva Ferrill - 63 years old from the Philadelphia Club, Waterford SDA Church.
It was an historic evening for the Youth Ministries Department as this is its largest delegation of youth to be invested as Master Guides, Senior Youth Leaders, Adventurers and Pathfinders at once.
Pastor Everett Brown, President of the Jamaica Union was the main presenter at this service and charged all Adventist Youths to be the light of the world and to let their lights shine.
According to Pastor Brown, “the light is the information that you have received from your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through your instructors, parents, and Pastors that which is written in the Holy Scriptures and amplified in the writings of Ellen G. White.”
“Jesus wants you to inculcate all of that in your life and to share that with men and women throughout the communities that you serve,” he said.
Youth Director of CJC, Pastor Kevan Barnaby commended all Senior Youth Leaders, Master Guides, Adventurers, and Pathfinders for their commitment to youth ministry and charged them to impact both the church and community.
Pastor Barnaby said he believes that these Senior Youth Leaders and Master Guides will provide the leadership that is needed in the local churches.
“To lead young people in this post-modern era calls for youth who are exposed to certain kinds of leadership training. Having been invested as youth leaders they will help to strengthen and lift our young people to another level", he said.
Each level of training (Senior Youth Leaders, Adventurers, Pathfinders, and Master Guides) is tailored to prepare different age groups for service in the Adventist Church and the community.
The curriculum includes topics on church history, spirituality, age-appropriate life skills and leadership principles that covers a period of six months to 3 years.
Adventurers are children ages 6-9 years, who are taught to grow joyfully in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.
Pathfinders are for youths ages 10-15 and form an integral part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Master Guides must be at least 16 years of age to start the Master Guide curriculum, however, there is no set age at completion. They must also be active staff members of an Adventurer or Pathfinder Club, complete a Basic Staff Training Course and be involved for a minimum of one year in one of the following ministries:
- Adventurer Ministries
- Pathfinder Ministries
Finally, the Master Guide curriculum must be completed in a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years. Those completing the Master Guide curriculum do so under the supervision of the Conference/Mission Youth Ministries Director or his/her designated Master Guide.
Senior Youth Leaders are persons who are committed to serving as Adventist Youth Leaders and must be at least 16 years of age.
