Braeton Seventh-day Adventist Church Brings Hope and Support to Siloah, St. Elizabeth after Hurricane Melissa

Heeding the words of the Lord found in Matthew 25:40, the members of the Braeton Seventh-day Adventist Church rallied to a call from our leaders to bring our love gifts, as plans were being made to visit one of the areas ravaged by Hurricane Melissa.

The members responded generously, and while 62 persons traveled to Siloah, St. Elizabeth, on Sunday, November 15, many others played a vital role through their donations, preparation and support.

Led by Elder Randall Williams and Pastor Onell Montaque, the team used the Siloah Seventh-day Adventist Church as the base of operations. Volunteers were subdivided into teams responsible for prayer, food and care package distribution, clothing distribution and health ministry. Each distribution group was accompanied by a member of the Siloah Church.

A total of 185 food packages, 194 care packages, 171 hot meals and 250 cups of soup were shared with residents in Windsor, Island Mountain, Bun Grung, Cave and Mosquito Bottom. Several cases of drinking water and tarpaulins were also distributed to families in need.

The Health Ministries team—which included two medical doctors, nurses and other health professionals—attended to 50 persons, providing health checks, medical assessment, counseling, and dispensing medication.

It was a fulfilling day, filled with the joy and gratitude of all the recipients. As one community member expressed, “Thank you for sharing the love of Jesus and giving us what you brought. It shows us that we should repent of our sins, because the coming of the Lord is near.”

Inspired by God’s blessings, we look forward to continuing the ministry of compassion wherever the need arises.
